Susan Tanner

Lecturer and Mentor

MRD RCS(Eng) MSc BDS(Lon) FCGDent MDTFEd, Specialist In Prosthodontics

Now devoting herself almost entirely to implant practice, Susan’s Masters Degree in Prosthetic Dentistry formed a cohesive platform for the vast number of full arch implant reconstructions she has carried out over more than 20 years, for both referring colleagues and for patients of The Dawood and Tanner Specialist Dental Practice.

As a Specialist in Prosthodontics, she has a particular interest in the implant rehabilitation of patients who have atrophic jaws, with the goal of always providing immediate fixed reconstructions, even where there is extensive resorption. Susan utilises the latest technology to plan and construct restorations, working in close conjunction with implant surgeons and laboratory technicians; she has done much to streamline the workflow and optimise outcome.

Susan qualified from University College Dental School, followed on with appointments at various London Hospitals and set up a prosthodontic treatment facility in the maxillofacial department of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, restoring patients who had undergone surgery for head and neck cancer and trauma. She still has a particular interest in rehabilitation for patients with facial deformity working with maxillofacial and craniofacial surgeons to help improve quality of life, often using creative approaches to treatment and the innovative technology.

Susan takes great pleasure in teaching, lecturing regularly on prosthodontic aspects of implant dentistry in the UK and internationally, giving courses at the Dawood and Tanner Academy or working with small groups or on a one to one mentoring basis at the practice, helping the general dental practitioner to bring the benefits of implant treatments to their patients and their working life.

She is a trustee of the charity “Saving Faces”, The Facial Surgery Research Foundation, dedicated to supporting nationwide research into head and neck cancer. Having been in the forefront of advanced dentistry, Susan is a keen proponent for driving forward the agenda for increasing the presence of women in the field of dental implant dentistry.
